“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;” Psalm 139:14a
I am sure that at least one time in your life you thought to yourself, “God, why did you make me this way?” This being something that makes you uniquely you, perhaps a physical feature, or a personality quirk, or a personal preference or dislike, or maybe even a strength or weakness you possess.
It’s human nature to want to fit in, be it with trends, verbiage, social media, knowing the most popular songs, or having seen the latest movie or newest show. Sometimes the thought of rejection causes us to follow the crowd and do things we don’t want to or even like to do. The fear of being rejected can also cause us to keep silent and not express our thoughts, ideas, concerns, beliefs, etc. But, God did not make us to be identical replicas of each other.
God spent nine months forming YOU in your mother’s womb. He took time to fashion your character, your interests, your gifts, and your passions. Yet, all too often we spurn His unique design in vain pursuit to be like someone else. In Psalm 139:14 David says that he praises God for being made to reflect a part of God’s image. When God fashioned us in His image, He made us His image bearers, to reflect different aspects of Himself, aspects of His character! And not only are we exclusive in that design, but we are singular and priceless. No one is exactly like you! That is something to rejoice in, not change.
Think of snowflakes falling we can’t help but admire their beauty. But did you know that no two snowflakes are the same? In the same way, we each are a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that is meant to make a special impact in this world. You were made so you could reach other people. You were made different to testify of the power of our God. Don’t give up what is precious to the Lord, not for anyone or anything!
God bless you! <3
