“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20
Whether you are confessing sins, praying through the trials, crying when the hard news comes, sharing a breakthrough, rejoicing in an answered prayer, or encouraging a friend, we all desire to have people in our lives.
There is such a deep connection when you and your friend invite Jesus into your conversation. Fellowship is such a beautiful time of giving and receiving that points to Christ. It undoubtedly brings believers closer because we are knit together by the most powerful love, agape, and by the most perfect will, our Lord’s. It grows us, challenges us, and inspires us to go deeper, love harder, and praise more.
Now, I know it is not always the easiest thing to attain, for some finding connections and making friends is difficult, others have been scarred by broken trust, lies, and pains of the past. But, I implore you not to give up on something that Christ not only encourages but lived out Himself. He knows firsthand the pains of friendships. He knows rejection, abandonment, lies, and betrayal from friends, close friends. Yet, He pursued fellowship because it is good and beneficial for man.
Aaron and Hur lifted Moses’ arms in Exodus 17:11-13 when Moses did not have the strength to do it alone; his two friends came to support him, literally and figuratively. David and Jonathan’s deep friendship stood the test of time; they built each other up and gave preference to the other. Friendships won’t be perfect, and fellowship may not always come easy, but the benefits of it will be impacting and lasting.
This also comes with the challenge to be the friend you want. If you want a friend to pray with and for you, speak wisdom to you, or share with you what God is doing in her life begin by doing it yourself. Be the friend you desire to have and open the door for deeper fellowship to happen. Christians don’t just need friends to do fun stuff with (though we love those times); we need friends who sharpen us and point us to Jesus over and over again.
God bless you! <3
