The Power of the Tongue: Bullying ~

Synonyms for bullying: persecute, oppress, tyrannize, torment, intimidate, domineer, and harass. Bullying is a way of making others feel inferior. There are many ways to bully someone: relational, physical, verbal, prejudicial, sexual, and cyberbullying.

No matter how, why, or who it is done to, bullying is NEVER honoring to God nor respectful to our fellow man.

I have seen the repercussions of it in my own life. Numerous times I have been completely shattered by others’ cruel words. The deep impact their words had on me subconsciously affected the way I lived for many years. I was scarred and had little to no confidence and even thought others saw me the same way as those who bullied me.

If you have felt that way at any point in time, my heart breaks for you, but YOU ARE SEEN by God. Words can never be taken back, but with prayer and seeking the Lord their power over you can diminish. They do not define you.

Healing may take time depending on how deep the wounds are. There have been times I had to drown the lies with truth. I also shared with others about my pain so they could come alongside me. Other times, I had to step out and grow in confidence, remembering who God says I am. Whatever path of healing God takes you on, I pray you discover the freedom God desires for you. He wishes to restore every part of you that has been wounded by others and turn it into a beautiful testimony of His goodness and love.

For those who bully others, STOP! Belittling others will NEVER make you feel better about yourself. Sinning against others in this manner is never excusable. Ask God to reveal your motive, perhaps anger, jealousy, hurt, or incorrect perception of self. Repent and apologize. If you claim to be a Christian, then remember to live like Christ; your identity in Him will set you apart from the world, not make you more like it.

May we honor God with pleasant words and righteous actions. Tearing down people is not a strength; it is a weakness. True strength is in building up others. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” Proverbs 18:21a.

God bless you! <3
