The Misconception of this Season ~

In American society Christmas music and commercials are already starting before our Thanksgiving. As soon as December 1st rolls in, Americans begin a shopping spree that can last the whole month. WORLD magazine predicted 2023’s sales: “In 2022, retailers racked up record sales of $936 billion, and are forecast to reach up to $966 billion in 2023.”
Families spend so much money on toys, food, clothing, décor, festive celebrations, transportation, and so much more. If the amount spent during this month were totaled and averaged per household, it would be more than some people in other parts of the world make in an entire year!
I am not saying this as an anti-Christmas person. I love the traditions of Christmas: watching movies, exchanging gifts, making gingerbread, and if we are feeling bold, wearing that ugly Christmas sweater. However, the true meaning often gets lost in all the festivities. Jesus, the only Son of God, coming down as a baby, to then live among us, die a sinner’s death on the cross in our place, and gloriously rise the third day so that we could have eternal life, is the real reason we can celebrate.
In this season, as busy as our schedules can get, be sure to take time to thank God for the true reason we can celebrate.
God bless you! <3
