The Confusion of Identity ~

     This topic isn’t easy to write on, but as Christians we are called to stand up for truth, even if that means standing alone, it is worth the cost.

     People are wrought with confusion because they follow the mantra of “follow your heart” or “be true to your feelings”. However, feelings come and go, and many times our impulses end up leaving us full of regret. You may be wondering what this has to do with our topic, but it has everything to do with it.

     Many believe: “My gender and feelings are not defined by my body parts, they are defined by my emotions, feelings, and impulses.” However, this is a destructive lie and by believing it, one is telling God, who is our Creator and Designer, “You made me wrong, so I am going to fix myself.” At its core it is an act of rebellion and defiance.

     Our bodies have intricate design and functions. This reflects the Designer and His divine purpose for creating (wo)man. God has a plan for each of us. If we stop defining ourselves by our “preferences” and feelings and submit ourselves to Christ we will have peace instead of confusion.

     I am saddened by the confusion that has permeated our society, seeping into our minds and leaving many feeling desperate and empty as they try to “find” themselves in something that will never satisfy. We must remember our true identity. It is not solely in being either male or female, though that holds value and significance, but our true identity is being a child of God! The only thing that can fill the void in our hearts is God’s love, which was poured out through Christ!
