The Body Image Battle ~

Most of us have something we don’t like about ourselves physically. Whether it’s our hair, freckles, nose, scars, weight, etc. We spend time wondering how much better our life would be if _____ was just gone or different; we make goals to eat better and work out harder, and at times we put make up on to cover up what we don’t want others to see.

If that wasn’t already discouraging enough then we have the media, magazines, and influencers telling us how we should look. Any self-confidence we might have had is lost and replaced with insecurity and negative thoughts about ourselves. These are just some of the dangers of comparing ourselves to others.

Sadly, most girls struggle with the body image battle. Self-loathing and comparison are so prevalent that girls are doing their mind and body harm rather than achieving the “perfection” they desire. And it doesn’t just affect the girl, it affects those around her, too, and can even destroy relationships with family, friends, or the opposite sex.

One thing I’ve learned through my own struggle is that even if we were to attain our ideal of perfection, it would never satisfy. There will ALWAYS be something that needs to be changed, and there will ALWAYS be girls you feel you will never measure up to.

Our culture has polluted our minds and broken the spirit of many girls because we can never reach the “standards” they push, especially since these supposed standards are ever changing. Instead of recognizing God’s infinite creativity in His design and celebrating the beauty in our differences, we categorize and separate everyone. We are quick to judge others, rather than see the magnificence in our uniqueness.

The truth is that we don’t have to measure up because God didn’t design us all to be the same. It’s time to embrace who we and others are. It’s time to see the beauty in the bodies God has given us. It’s time to push back and be different in a culture of comparison. It’s time to have the eyes of Christ.

God bless you! <3
