Graduates… I Don’t Have (Big) Future Plans ~

I am sure there are seniors who dread to hear, “What are your plans after high school or college?” They know the excitement and care of those inquiring, but the pressure to have it all figured out can be overwhelming.
The dilemma one faces isn’t always a lack of wanting to make an impact; it can be that they don’t know which way to make an impact. They may feel they must decide right now what they will do for the rest of their lives.
Maybe you have a part-time job you will continue, or perhaps you are taking elective courses at a community college trying to figure out your interests, or maybe you are just completely unsure and have no plans. Don’t fear or worry; we don’t all get our life’s call as adolescents. As I reflected on scripture concerning this topic, two people who received their calls at vastly different ages came to mind.
The first was Moses, and he was about 80 years old when God called him to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. Was Moses idle during those 79 plus years? Of course not!
Here is some advice that has comforted me:
1. God uses EVERYTHING in our lives to prepare us for the work He has.
2. We may have different calls in different seasons of our life. Moses was a prince, shepherd, husband, and father before he became the leader of the people of Israel. He still had purpose in those years.
If you decide you need some time off after graduation (whether six months, a year, etc.) it can be great training ground for learning to wait patiently for the Lord to reveal what He has for you. I am not saying to use such time being lazy. Discipline is necessary in every season of life; laziness only breeds poor habits. Find purpose; do something useful: volunteer work, helping around your house, or getting involved in a ministry, just to name a few. This cannot be overstressed: God will use EVERYTHING! Besides you never know if doing one of those things will ignite a passion or stir a calling!
Oh, also, be sure to check back next Wednesday to find out who is the second Biblical figure.
God Bless!
