Freedom is Not Free, Never Forget the Cost ~

     “If a nation values anything more than freedom, it will lose its freedom; and the irony of it is that if it is comfort or money that it values more, it will lose that too.” ~ W. Somerset Maugham

     Without the courageous soldiers who left home and family to fight for liberty those 248 years ago, the land we call home would not be the same; we would not be the “Land of the Free”.

     The sad fact is that many do not know our country’s true history, the trials and errors, the successes and victories. Our youth show disinterest, disrespect, and disregard for those who fought for their families and future generations. Our freedom is something natural born citizens often take for granted; sadly, it is the immigrants and refugees have valued, known, and cared more about our history and freedom then most Americans!

     American soldiers did not fight in wars to get their names in history books; they knew the price of freedom comes at a cost and must be fought for to be won and defended to be kept. May we, the beneficiaries of their sacrifice, take time to honor them not only tomorrow but daily as we remember and express gratitude for the freedom we possess. May we value freedom as they did. May we be willing to fight to keep it. Then, the cost, value, and privilege of freedom will be personal, the desire to fight to keep our country free will strengthen, and the gratitude for those who served will be genuine and lasting.
