Fear: Love is The Overcomer ~

The past two weeks we’ve learned about the hold fear can have on us; as well as identifying Satan as the perpetuator of fear. This week we will focus on the One who conquers our fears.

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear...” 1 John 4:18a. John tells the believers in his letter that there is no fear in love. But what love is he referring to? In the original text the word for love is “agape”. Agape is God’s love; it is unconditional, powerful, perfect, and pure. John is stating that where God’s love dwells there should be no fear; the two cannot co-exist. Moreover, God’s love casts out fear. God is light, and He will expose the lies fear is rooted in.

You may be thinking, “I do trust in God, BUT I still struggle with fear. It’s not as easy as you make it seem.” You are right, fear is a struggle, a very real and difficult struggle, but if God permits such struggle, it is not for our failing, but for revelation. He desires to reveal more of who He is to us, and as we look to Him in our weakness, temptations, and struggles, we become more reliant on Him (which makes us strong).

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

In times where your fear is rising the only way you can fight back is with the help of God. When you invite God into the battle of fear, you’ve brought the Victorious One, the Champion, the Undefeated One. Satan and his demons will flee because they are afraid of God; remember they have seen Him, they know Him, and they are powerless in His presence.

Jesus, as a man, knew fear and sympathizes with ours. However, He did not allow fear to have any place in His mind or heart; when things were scary or difficult He went to the Father. Jesus was able to live fearlessly because He was dependent on the Father, and the Father’s love filled Him. Let’s follow His example to live fearlessly while abiding in the love of God.

God bless you! <3
