“…Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanual”, Isaiah 7:14b. “He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end”, Luke 1:32-33.
The baby born in a stable over two thousand years ago is the most important birth story of all time. Integrated into this ‘story’ are some unique details that make it interesting, too. Born one hundred miles from his hometown because of a census. Laid in a manger because there was no room for him or his parents in any inn. Born in such a lowly state that his first visitors were also of low status, shepherds on night watch who received the announcement through an angelic choir. And, yet so important was this little baby, that a star led wise men from the east to travel and inquire of his location even a few years after his birth so that they could worship Him. These are just some of the particulars surrounding this historic account, but sadly many believe it to be no more than a fairytale. But, this is much more, much, much more in fact!
Today, some 2000 years later, we still celebrate the birth of this baby, in fact most of us have been celebrating Him all month, but why? His birth marked the beginning of the work God had planned to bring salvation to humanity. Make time today to thank Him for His provisions and reflect on all He’s done.
Philippians 2:7-8, “but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.”
God bless you, and Merry Christmas to you and yours! <3
