Appreciating School ~

With my years of high school behind me, I can look back fondly and know that all I learned and all the character formed by hard work and perseverance, has shaped who I am now.

Oxford Languages says that appreciate means to, “recognize the full worth of” or “be grateful for (something)”. My hope is that children and teens alike will truly learn to have a deep appreciation for school. I think many, including myself, can take for granted the privilege to learn and the value it can have in our lives.

We often take education for granted because we have not lacked in America. Most of us have had the opportunity to learn to read and write. We can sit down and grab a book if we want to learn more about something. We have an abundance of resources and computers to research and seek more information. And classes on any subjects that interest us are readily accessible.

We can easily forget that across the world there are children who have limited access to school, books, and resources. Most people have an abundance of potential, but due to circumstances beyond their control they grow up and remain illiterate. I am sure if given the opportunity to attend school, they would eagerly, willingly, and with much gratitude accept.

God in His wisdom has put us in this time and in this place. We have been given the privilege to learn, and to those whom much is given much is required. If school is something we “have to” do, then let’s do it with a good attitude and in a way that honors God. I promise you that if you begin to appreciate your opportunity to learn, God will honor your heart and choice; by the end of your years of formal education you will be able to say like I did that they helped to shape who you are.

 God bless you! <3
