A Mother’s Impact ~

I hope that you had a wonderful Mother’s Day, whether as a daughter cherishing your mother or as a mother being celebrated. With the holiday having just passed, I find it fitting to write on the subject.

Our mother’s legacy will leave an impression on us. The way she spoke, the habits she had, and the love she showed will stay with us. We can learn so much from observing our mothers, even from her shortcomings and failures. Mothers can be role models, heroes, our biggest supporters, and faithful prayer intercessors. The impact they make on their children will last a lifetime.

However, motherhood is more than the past generation’s legacy; it is also about the legacy you will leave. Yes, we can learn from our mothers and grandmothers; those lessons are invaluable, but our legacy will be based on how we choose to live. We are called to live out the Word and obey God’s instructions for us as mothers. Many of you are not mothers and won’t be for years to come, but you can still take to heart Biblical lessons about mothering.

In celebrating mothers, we must not forget our spiritual mothers, those who have loved, supported, prayed, and poured wisdom and truth into our lives. They may not be our “birth” mother, but they should be honored and treasured, too. Spiritual mothers fulfill an important command laid out in Titus chapter 2. If you are a young adult pray for God to lead you to a young lady you can pour into. And, for you younger ladies, seek godly mentors who will guide you in the Truth.

In closing I want to address those that may be feeling sadness or a void. Some of you have lost your mother or maybe never even knew her, others have been deeply wounded by their mother or are not close to her, for those ladies, Sunday may have been challenging or even bittersweet, but know that you are not overlooked, and I am praying for you. More importantly, we have a God who cares deeply for your pain, your hurts, your sadness; He loves you immensely!

God bless you! <3
