A Godly Response to Bullying ~

Last week we discussed the destruction of bullying, and how God can heal us from the effects of it. But what if you or someone you know is currently being bullied, how are you to respond?
As with any matter or situation we encounter, we should look to Jesus as our example of what to do. Jesus endured the worst persecution any human could experience, yet in the face of mockery and accusations He always responded in a manner that honored God. “Respond” means, “saying something in reply…act or behave in reaction to someone or something” (Oxford Languages). Jesus exemplified both verbal and nonverbal ways of responding.
At times Jesus spoke up and addressed those who treated Him badly. In contrast to how we may think he “gave it to them”, Jesus spoke with respect to others, though the truth shared cut to the heart. His response was led by the Spirit, not by the heat of the moment.
At times Jesus kept silent. When verbally assaulted by others He often chose to remain quiet, not allowing their words to provoke Him to sin. Remaining silent can often be perceived as weakness, but Jesus knew that speaking less sometimes has greater impact than many words. In His silence He demonstrated strength, wisdom, and self-control, unlike those around Him who spoke out of anger, jealousy, hatred, and foolishness.
God may ask you to speak up or keep quiet. Whether you are naturally bold or shy away from confrontation, God will ask of you what is necessary to build character. Be brave and courageous in obedience, for He knows what’s best for all involved.
“Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.” Proverbs 26:4-5
God bless you! <3
